Many start their cloud exploration with Dropbox. It's a great cloud-based file share service that syncs with your devices, but for some - when compared to Office 365 - it can feel a bit limiting when used for business.
Dropbox is fast and easy-to-use. It is the best file share solution for
single users. That’s because Dropbox was created with the individual
in mind. However, businesses are a smaller part of their offering. Office
365 (and SuiteFiles) has been designed with small business needs in mind
from the very beginning.
In fact with Dropbox, you’re on your own from the
beginning; your file migration is up to you. With Office 365 and SuiteFiles,
your file migration is included - it’s automatic, it’s accurate, and you just
get to sit back and relax!
Because Dropbox is largely a consumer app, you’ve probably found yourself
limited by what it can offer to improve your business collaboration and
productivity. With Office 365 and SuiteFiles, you have a better suite of tools
at your disposal.
With Dropbox you don’t have an email component, Lync for an affordable
communication system, any Xero integration, any relevance engine, any office web
apps. Dropbox just syncs your files from A to B. So, if you’re looking for a more
complete Cloud platform where you and your staff can co-author documents,
co-ordinate meetings across offices and integrate your other cloud software
into one seamless portal - you should compare Dropbox with Office 365 and SuiteFiles.
They might be more what you’re looking for.
So we’ve determined that Dropbox is great for individuals. So much so, that you might have found your 20 staff all have their own Dropbox account, where each of them are housing your important files, leaving you feeling out of the loop and out of control.
Unfortunately because it’s a BYOC (bring-your-own-cloud) consumer app, and
doesn’t allow for governance or compliance, Dropbox makes it onto the
blacklist of many companies banned apps.
With Dropbox, your important corporate IP ends up in a file repository
that you have no control over. Compare this with Office 365 and the SuiteFiles
interface. Not only can you see what’s happening in your Cloud environment all the
time, but if at any point you need to shut off a staff member’s access, you simply
head to the easy-to-use permissions portal and what’s yours is no longer theirs.
